STATESVILLE, N.C. — Troopers say a semi-truck driver will not face charges after he hit and killed a pedestrian in Iredell County early Thursday morning.
Around 6:30am, Troopers responded to US 70 near Cedar Hill Trail in reference to a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, Troopers say 47-year-old Tyson Painton, of Statesville, had died from the injuries he sustained in the accident.
The initial investigation reveals Painton was wearing dark clothing and the roadway was no lighted in the area where the accident happened. Painton was walking westbound on the roadway when the accident happened, according to a news release.
Troopers say they do not believe impairment nor speed were contributing factors in the crash. The road was closed for approximately two hours. No charges will be filed in the case, according to Troopers. No other details have been released at this time.
