Top Officials Emotional Remembering Fallen Heroes

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — More than 100 shots were fired during the standoff. Twelve CMPD officers fired their weapons during the shootout. In an emotional news conference city, state, and local officials gave some insight into what happened.

The man in charge of Charlotte’s finest and bravest allowing himself a brief moment of vulnerability. Chief Johnny Jennings saying the suspected shooter, Terry Hughes, began firing from the second floor as officers approached the home to serve a warrant.

Chief Jennings says they are not ready to say if there was a second shooter responsible for killing four men sworn to serve and protect who upheld that motto until the very end.

The U.S. Marshal’s Office speaking about the bravery of the men who lost their lives and Gov. Roy Cooper says it’s not just North Carolina, but the country that lost four heroes on Monday.

A scar on our state, specifically our city. One that Mayor Vi Lyles believes will one day heal.
