Sheriff’s Office: Rowan County Man Charged With Indecent Liberties

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. – A Rowan County Man was arrested and charged with one count of taking indecent liberties with a minor, according to a news release.

The release states that in October 2023 the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office was notified by a 13-year-old’s parents that the child had been sexually abused and identified 55-year-old David Mize, a family friend, as a suspect. Deputies say that the victim immediately told family members after the assault, which occurred on October 13, resulting in the report the following day.

On May 3, 2024, Mize was arrested at his residence and charged with one count of taking indecent liberties with a minor and was released on a $15,000 secured bond to await trial.

The release also states that Mize was served with a warrant for contributing to the delinquency of juvenile. This stemmed from an incident that occurred on April 30, 2024.

The Sheriff’s Office says that Mize was found at his residence on Zion Church Road in a vehicle while in a state of disrepair and inoperable while doing a welfare check. Mize, along with his 12-year-old, did not appear to have food, running water, housing or transportation to and from school, as said by in the release. Mize claims to have picked her up from a relative who was her primary caregiver, which resulted in the DSS removing the juvenile from the care and custody of her primary caregiver.
