UPDATE: Police say the 15-year-old victim, identified as Zavier Ellis, has died.
Ellis was shot Sunday evening and died from his injuries Tuesday evening, according to officials.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – CMPD is investigating a shooting that happened on the 8000 block of Sherington Way in east Charlotte.
Officials say an assault with a deadly weapon call came at approximately 2:41 pm Sunday afternoon.
Upon arrival, officers found a 15-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound. Medic transported the victim to CMC with life-threatening injuries.
Officials are currently on scene canvassing the area for witnesses and evidence.
This is an ongoing, active investigation.
