Anson County Woman Charged With Insurance Fraud

POLKTON, N.C. – A woman in Anson County is facing insurance fraud-related charges after falsely receiving additional coverage on a vehicle, according to the North Carolina Department of Insurance.

Officials said Tammy Cox, 53, gave written and oral statements to Progressive Premier Insurance Company of Illinois to acquire additional coverage for a vehicle that was previously in an accident.

The incident occurred on March 9th.

Cox was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense. She was released on a $8,000 unsecured bond.

“Insurance fraud is not a victimless crime,” Commissioner Causey said. “Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar goes to covering the cost of fraud. I’m fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina.”

Cox is set to appear in court in Anson County on Tuesday, May 28th.
