RALEIGH, NC —Β Democratic Senator Kay Hagan and Republican Challenger Thom Tillis met in the first of three debates Wednesday nightΒ in Raleigh. Β The two candidates disagreed on several issues.
Tillis says Hagan would be a rubber stamp for President Obama. Β The Senator says the State Speaker will move North Carolina backwards by supporting tax cuts over help for women and students.
“During my six years, teachers got a 21 percent pay raise. Β Every child, every parent knows the value of a great teacher, except Speaker Tillis,” said Senator Hagan.
“We’ve got a 7 percent pay increase, which is one of the largest pay increases to teachers in the last 20 years. Β We’ve actually reduced classroom sizes,” said Speaker Tillis.
Hagan and Tillis will square off again next month. Β George Stephanopoulos will moderate the debate on October 7.
