CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a fatal crash involving a CATS bus.

Officers say they responded to the accident on Eastway Drive around 10:53 p.m. on Saturday, May 11th. Upon arrival, the driver of a 2006 Honda Civic, identified as 20-year-old Javier Ortiz-Ruiz, died at the scene, according to CMPD.

The other drivers, including a CATS bus driver, Tranisha Baxter, 54, and the driver of a 2020 Infiniti QX60, Katherine Berry, 61, were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The accident caused the CATS bus to collide into the Infiniti.
