Sheriff: Suspect Killed By Alexander County Officer

TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. – A wanted person was killed by an Alexander County officer after he attempted to serve the individual a warrant for their arrest, according to Sheriff Pennell.

Sheriff Pennell stated that on the night of May 12, 2024, two officers arrived at a residence after learning of a wanted person near NC Hwy 16. When the officers arrived, a verbal interaction began which resulted in the individual fleeing on foot from the officers, as said by the Sheriff.

One of the officers caught the individual where a fight began before the individual fired a handgun at the officer, which resulted in the officer returning fire and killing the individual, according to the statement.

The North Carolina States Bureau of Investigation is investigation the shooting and the officer has been placed on paid administrative leave.
