CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Officials responded to a one vehicle collision on the 7000 block of Pineville-Matthews Road at noon on Sunday.
CMPD says 23-year-old William Brown was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and traveling southeast on Pineville-Matthews Road. The truck was pulling an enclosed utility trailer.
Police say the Chevrolet and trailer drove straight through a curve into the opposing lanes, ran off the road, and traveled down an embankment and rolled laterally. The truck and trailer separated during the rollover.
The Chevrolet came to rest on its roof in the grass and caught fire.
CFD and Medic responded to the scene. CMPD say both the driver and passenger where transported to the hospital with injuries.
Police say the front seat passenger 54-year-old Anthony Edward Cross suffered severe burn injuries. Cross was transported to CMC-Main and is currently in critical condition.
Brown suffered minor injuries and was transported to Novant Medical Center-Main.
Officials say Brown was charged with Driving While Impaired and will additionally be charged with Felony Serious Injury by Motor Vehicle upon his release.
Authorities don’t believe excessive speed was a factor in this crash.
