SWAT Incident Ends In East Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The SWAT team was called in to help CMPD apprehend five robbery suspects shortly after 4:30 pm Sunday afternoon.

CMPD says they located a wanted suspect vehicle related to a recent armed robbery and attempted to initiate a felony traffic stop.

Police say the vehicle failed to stop and crashed on West 28th Street and North Poplar Street. Officials say five subjects fled from the vehicle.

CMPD says a brief foot chase, two subjects were detained, and the additional subjects fled to a nearby apartment complex.

Authorities say the SWAT Team set up a perimeter at the scene and residents of the apartment complex were relocated as a precaution.

Police say a third subject was located in a nearby area and was taken into custody.

Members of the SWAT team entered the apartment complex and did not locate the additional subjects.

Police are looking for two more suspects.

The names of the suspects have not been released.

This is an active investigation.
