Summery Memorial Day Weekend
Pop-up strong storms are possible throughout the holiday weekend, but the overall severe threat remains low.
We’ve made it to Memorial Day weekend! The unofficial start to summer is going to feel like, well… summer. Expect highs approaching 90° to go along with pop-up rain chances over each of the next four afternoons ahead around the Metro. The sweltering heat and juicy humidity will provide plenty of fuel for late-day storms through the holiday weekend, but the overall severe threat remains low. That said, the strongest cells may pack damaging gusty winds and quarter-sized hail. It’s worth noting that Charlotte still hasn’t hit 90° so far in 2024, but that may change by Memorial Day Monday.
The summer-like feels will likely stick around through Tuesday before a cold front sweeps much of the moisture and some of the heat out of the Carolinas. Afternoon highs will dip closer to 80° this coming Wednesday and Thursday as rain chances take a dive. Enjoy the beautiful weather and break in humidity while the going is good; June is just a week away.
