CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Two men in a relationship are dead after one of them killed the other before shooting himself, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Officials said that Michael Olarte, 32, and Samuel Haugh, 21, knew each other and were in a new relationship.
Olarte was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on May 5th. Shortly after he was found dead, Haugh’s family reported him missing.
A thorough investigation found that Olarte harmed Haugh and disposed of his body on April 29th, according to CMPD.
The investigation led them to a wooded area near River Circle in northwest Charlotte on May 21st where they located human remains.
Three days later on May 24th, the remains were determined to be Haugh’s. Police said he died from a gunshot wound and his death was ruled to be a homicide.
Based on the information found in the investigation, detectives said that Olarte was identified as the suspect behind Haugh’s death.
