Pedestrian Fatally Stuck By Two Vehicles In Burke County

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. – A pedestrian was fatally stuck by two vehicles Wednesday morning.

Melvin Johnson, 35, was driving a 2022 Volvo tractor-trailer, traveling west on I-40 when he struck 30-year-old Trenton Kiser in the roadway, according to a new release.

In an attempt to avoid striking Kiser, Johnson swerved, losing control of the vehicle. The tractor-trailer proceeded to go down an embarkment and overturned.

Police say after the initial collision, Kiser was struck again by a westbound 2017 Toyota Camry, driven by 35-year-old Koua Yang.

Upon arrival to the scene police reported Kiser succumbed to his injuries.

Neither driver suffered any injuries.

The initial investigation does not indicate impairment or speed to be contributing factors.  During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was partially closed in the area for several hours and expected to be completely open in approximately two hours.
