The release states that 19-year-old Hinson was murdered in December of 1981 when she was shot inside of her car on I-40 West and her death was never solved. Burke County Sheriff Banks Hinceman is offering an increase in the reward that is being offered between three agencies. Over the past 42 years, thousands of hours have been spent investigating the death, as said in the release.

“I believe that there is someone out there with credible information that could help bring the person(s) responsible for this murder to justice,” Sheriff Banks Hinceman said. “I know it’s been 42 years, and if you are worried about what people will think about you, it’s never too late to do the right thing. My prayer is that the Lord will weigh heavily on someone’s heart to come forward with credible information that will bring justice for Rhonda and her family, who have been waiting for 42 years.”

The Burke County Sheriff is offering $40,000, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is offering up to $25,000 and Morganton/Burke is offering up to $29,700.
