LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. – The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the shooting of the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office’s Staff Attorney and Public Information Officer, Doug Barfield, according to a news release.
The release states that on the evening of May 29, there was a reported shooting in Kershaw on N. Matson Street. Upon arrival, deputies say they found the victim with a gunshot wound and identified him as Barfield, an employee of the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office. He is expected to make a full recovery after being transported to a hospital
It was noted in the release that Barfield was off-duty. The State Law Enforcement Division took over the investigation due to Barfield’s employment.
“It is a scary feeling knowing one of your own has been hurt and we are extremely grateful that Doug’s injuries are not life threatening,” said Sheriff Barry Faile. “We are thankful for all the other law enforcement agencies and first responder services that came to assist. Both the agency and the Barfield family are appreciative of everyone who has reached out to offer their thoughts and prayers.”
