DMV Unveils New State Licenses, Calling It “Most Secure” Ever
The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced new driver licenses, permits and identification cards with the latest security design and construction to combat fraud.
“I am proud to announced the implementation of the most secure credential in our great state’s history,” said DMV Commissioner Wayne Goodwin. “Our new licenses and IDs will be among the most secure identifying documents in the world.”
The card is 100% polycarbonate and utilizes engraving technology to make it personalized, giving it a different look as well as a different feel and sound.
North Carolina imagery will be featured on the card, including the state flower, flag, and border outline, as well as a salamander and lighthouse.
The current design will be phased out by the end of June, as the new design will be put into production this week. The design elements are “among 50 security features used to assist law enforcement in the deterrence and detection of fraud.”
Current licenses and IDs will remained valid until their expiration date.
