One Dead In Tractor-Trailer Crash In Alexander County

TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. – An 80-year-old man was killed in a head-on crash involving a tractor-trailer in Alexander County on Sunday morning, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

It happened around 8:50 a.m. Friday on US 64 near Boston Road in Taylorsville, North Carolina.

A 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe and a 2006 Kenworth tractor-trailer were traveling in opposite directions on US 64. Officials said the Chverolet crossed the centerline and collided with the tractor-trailer head-on.

James Durmire, 80, was operating the Chevrolet and died at the scene.

The tractor-trailer driver, 61-year-old Donald Herman, was not injured.

Officials are still investigating the crash, but say that speed and alcohol were not contributing factors.
