CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating after a pedestrian was fatally struck Monday night on the Plaza.
Officers responded to the crash around 10 p.m. Upon arrival, officers located a 2018 BMW 430i with damage to the front grill, hood, and windshield and a male pedestrian identified as 65-year-old Sugar Robinson lying in the roadway.
Medics pronounced Robinson dead at the scene due to injuries he sustained from being struck by the vehicle.
The driver of the BMW remained on scene.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Robinson was crossing The Plaza outside of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by the BMW. The driver was screened for impairment and determined to not be impaired. Further investigation will determine if speed was a factor for this crash. Toxicology results are for Robinson are pending.
