Brookshire Construction Continues To Cause Delays

CHARLOTTE – People who drive on the Brookshire Blvd and 485 exchange are sick and tired of all the slow downs. Drivers like Glenn Ferguson.

“It could be bad some days,” he said. “And like if I’m coming from uptown and then I get on, then I get off of 485 and get on this, then it is a long ride.”

This 10.6 million dollar project was awarded in late 2022. According to Jen Goodwin with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the plan is to add more lanes to the Brookshire and to three of the four ramps to 485.

“It’s a very busy spot. And that’s why this project is so important to accommodate all the additional traffic,” said Goodwin.

People are concerned about the lanes constantly shifting during this project. The far right lane now quickly becomes a turn lane forcing people to get over quickly.

This lane change is causing headaches for anyone who needs to shift lanes quickly. WCCB asked NCDOT about the lane change.

“It’s more widening going on there, more shoulder widening. And so that that taper is there just for that purpose.”

The Project should be completed by this coming fall.
