Heat advisories have been issued for parts of the Piedmont beginning at 11am today. Anson, Richmond and Chesterfield counties are under the heat advisory until 8pm Wednesday evening. Tropical moisture from the Gulf will push dew points into the mid to upper 70s this afternoon. Dew points are a good indicator of how it feels. The higher the dew point, the more humid it feels. This along with temperatures reaching the upper 90s, will push heat indices into the triple digits this afternoon. For those counties under the heat advisory, heat indices are forecast to reach advisory threshold, 105 for the North Carolina Piedmont, and 108 for the South Carolina Midlands for at least 2-3 hours this afternoon. Heat Alerts 2023

Temperatures this high could lead to heat related illnesses. Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat advisory. It is important to stay hydrated and wear loose fitting and light colored clothing. If you are working outside, take plenty of breaks and escape the heat as much as possible in an air conditioned building to let your body recover from the heat of the day.

5heat Advisory Criteria

A/C will be the only way to fully recover from the heat of the day as overnight temperatures will not fall below 75 the next few nights. Air conditioners not only cool the air in your home, but also remove the moisture, while fans just push around the hot and humid.

Car Temperature Explainer

Remember to check the backseat and never leave your child or pet in the car. The internal temperature of the car can heat up to 120 degrees in 10-15 minutes with outside temperatures above 95.

Download the WCCB Weather App for the latest information on the heat to stay WeatherWise even on the go.
