Routine Traffic Stop Leads Police To Drugs, Guns and Cash

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — A routine traffic stop in Iredell County led to deputies finding hundreds of grams of marijuana and several guns inside a car. 

Police stopped 51-year-old Antonio Martinez for following too close to another vehicle on I-77.  During the course of the stop, deputies detected an overwhelming odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. 

During the search, deputies found a card board box containing 18 glass mason jars with 482 grams of marijuana.  Upon further search, deputies located 3 pistols, a shotgun and a SKS assault rifle along with 1,000 rounds of ammunition. 

Deputies then found several items used to grow marijuana.  The items included, lights, extension cords, fans, liquid fertilizer, vent tubes and a portable tent.  Finally, deputies found $3,944 in cash inside the vehicle. 

Martinez has been charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance, carrying concealed weapons and possession of drug paraphernalia.
