Steamy & Stormy Sunday, Hurricane Beryl Barrels Toward Caribbean
Hurricane Beryl, currently located east of the Caribbean, may attain major status by Monday night.
Another hot and humid day has come and gone in the Carolinas to kick off June’s final weekend, but widespread storm activity is nowhere to be found. Your lawn’s fortune will begin to change, however, on Sunday as a cold front approaches from the northwest. Scattered showers and storms will pop up on a steamy afternoon as highs soar into the 80s and 90s across the board to close out the weekend. A level 1 out of 5 risk has been posted for the entirety of the WCCB Charlotte viewing area, as a few cells may pack gusty winds and small hail along with localized torrential rainfall.
Noticeably cooler and drier air filters in behind Sunday’s front, but highs will remain warm in the mid-to-upper 80s to start the workweek. Any semblance of a cooldown evaporates by midweek as temperatures climb back into the mid-90s on Wednesday; highs may approach the triple digits around the Metro and southeastward next weekend. Perpare to be hotter than a firecracker for your Fourth of July festivities as abundant sunshine bakes the Carolinas on Thursday.
We’ll also want to watch Beryl, currently located east of the Caribbean, which has become our first hurricane of the 2024 season. Beryl will barrel westward over the next week and is forecast to become the first major (Cat. 3+) system of the year as soon as Monday night. Interests along the Gulf Coast will want to keep a close watch on this system as models have it approaching the Gulf of Mexico by the end of the coming week.
