SUMMERVILLE, S.C. β A South Carolina man died on the 4th of July after igniting a firework on his head, according to the Dorchester County Sheriffβs Office.
It happened around 10:20 p.m. at a block party on Cottonwood Drive in Summerville, South Carolina.Β
Allen Ray McGrew, 41, was found laying in the road. He put a firework on his head, and it exploded while on his head, causing massive head injuries, officials said.
His wife, Paige McGrew, said her husband had been drinking since 6 p.m., according to the incident report. She said she saw Allen put the firework on his head, believing he did so to show off.
Paige advised Allen to take the firework off his head before it went off, causing him to collapse, officials said. Allen was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident is under investigation by the Dorchester County Sheriffβs Office and Coronerβs Office.
