MORGANTON, N.C. – The relatives of an 18-month-old child, who was hit and killed by a truck in Morganton on the 4th of July, created a GoFundMe to help the child’s family.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said the collision occurred around 10:40 a.m. at the Steel Creek Park & Family Campground parking lot in Burke County.
The highway patrol said a Chevy truck was pulling around a building when the 18-month-old toddler walked in front of the vehicle and was struck. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neither speed nor alcohol were contributing factors in the collision. No charges will be filed, the highway patrol said.
The fundraiser says the child “was a beautiful, spunky little daredevil. She loved riding dirt bikes and go carts. She was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.”
More than $25,000 have been raised in less than 24 hours. As of 8 p.m. Friday night, it’s up to $31,299.
Funds will help the family with funeral costs and “ease the burden of any other expenses resulting from this devastating loss,” the GoFundMe says.
