MONROVIA — A doctor with ties to Charlotte who is infected with the Ebola virus is on his way back to the United States Thursday night.
Dr. Rick Sacra is expected to arrive in Nebraska Friday morning. He will be treated in a bio-containment unit at Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Sacra joined Charlotte-based SIM USA in the 1980s. His wife talked to the doctor who put him on the plane.
“He said that Rick is clearly sick, but that he was in very good spirits, and he walked onto the plane,” said Sacra’s wife Debbie. “He would want you to know that he would not be afraid to pass into eternal life.”
Dr. Sacra contracted the ebola virus while delivering babies at a hospital in Monrovia.
