Driver Injured After Crashing Into Fire Truck On I-85 In Concord

CONCORD, N.C. — Troopers are investigating after a driver crashedΒ into a fire truck that was at the scene of another accident on I-85 in Concord.

Investigators say firefighters from the Concord Fire Department were working the scene of an accident that happened on I-85 just after 1am. Β The ladder truck and the North Carolina Highway Patrol were blocking the inside three lanes of the northbound side of I-85 at mile marker 50 when a vehicle reportedly failed to reduce speed, swerved to avoid hitting the Highway Patrol vehicles and struck the fire truck.

The impact of the crash moved the fire truck several feet. Β The vehicle then proceeded north before coming to a stop in the far outside lane.

The driver of the vehicle was entrapped and had to be extricated by firefighters. Β The entire interstate was shut down for two hours while the incident was being investigated.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries. Β No one was inside the fire truck at the time of the crash so no firefighters were injured.

Troopers have not said what caused the accident or if the driver will be facing charges. Β Check back for updates.
