Is the HB2 Repeal Deal in Jeopardy?
CHARLOTTE, NC – Is the HB2 repeal deal in jeopardy?
There are unconfirmed reports it is.
As of Tuesday night, the deal to repeal the controversial law is moving forward as planned.
A city spokesperson confirms to WCCB Charlotte that City Council only repealed the public accommodations or bathroom portion of the non-discrimination ordinance.
They left portions that protect people riding taxis and limos, as well as commercial non-discrimination, meaning businesses that contract with the city.
The city sent WCCB Charlotte a statement saying:
“HB2 preempted the City of Charlotte’s authority and invalidated the city’s public accommodation ordinance including the controversial bathroom provision. Yesterday, at the request of the general assembly, the city council removed its invalidated public accommodations ordinance from its city code.”
