Earthquake Recorded In North Carolina Mountains

CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. — The U.S. Geological Survey says a low-magnitude earthquake was felt in parts of the North Carolina mountains Sunday morning.

The 2.2 magnitude quake was reported near Buffalo Cove Road which is near Boone.

Officials say the earthquake was recorded around 4:30am. The earthquake was 4.3 miles under the ground but reports of people feeling the earthquake have been seen on social media as far away as South Carolina.

No damage was reported.
