Police Make Arrest In Armored Truck Robbery

UPDATE: Police arrested a man for robbing an armed truck employee. Β Investigators say Deron Mackie demanded money from the Dunbar Armored Truck employee at an ATM on North Tryon Street Friday afternoon, and then ran into a wooded area.

Students at Martin Luther King Middle School were placed on lockdown during the search for Mackie.

“That’s the most important thing, that they keep them out of harms way and make sure that everything is fine with the children,” said Charlotte resident Bishop Morell.

“Very brazen, but it’s just a tale of the times. Β People are getting more and more–criminals, or people who do criminal activities–are getting more and more brazen, and more and more bolder now days,” added Charlotte resident Chesley Simms.

Police followed Mackie into a wooded area near the school and recovered all the money. Β He will be charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating after an armored truck was robbed in north Charlotte.

Investigators say the suspect robbed the truck while it was at a Cashpoints ATM behind the Captain D’s restaurant on North Tryon Street near Eastway Drive. Β 

Martin Luther King Jr Middle School went on a partial lockdown because of police activity in the area. Β No arrests have been made at this time. Β
