Union County Sheriff’s Office Seize 35 Pounds Of Methamphetamine

MONROE, N.C. – During a traffic stop, two California women were arrested and 35 pounds of methamphetamine were seized, according to a news release.

The release states that 29-year-old Renee Rubio and 44-year-old Joanne Ortega were stopped and Cody, a Union County Sheriff’s K-9, alerted deputies that narcotics were present.

After a search of Rubio and Ortega’s vehicle, nearly 35 pounds of methamphetamine were seized, as said by the Sheriff’s Office.

Rubio and Ortega were arrested and are being charged with:

  • Felony trafficking in methamphetamine
  • Felony conspiracy to commit trafficking in methamphetamine
  • Felony maintaining a vehicle/dwelling/place for controlled substance

Sheriff Eddie Cathey adds, “This extremely successful interdiction operation is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our detectives, deputies, and K-9 teams. My office remains committed to combating drug trafficking and keeping our community safe by proactively seeking out and apprehending traffickers who prey upon those suffering from substance abuse addiction.”
