CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 2-year-old child is expected to be okay after getting stuck in a 12-foot storm drain in south Charlotte. Charlotte Fire and Rescue crews were called to the YWCA parking lot on Park Road just after 3:30 p.m. on Friday.

Authorities say the boy fell into the drain while playing hide and seek. When fire crews arrived, they say the boy was crying in knee-deep water at the bottom of the drain.

“The child ran away from the mom a short distance, and slipped and fell into the gutter in the parking lot. It’s about a 12-foot drop,” said Lt. Brian Foley of CMPD.

Police say the 2-year-old boy was transported to CMC Main, and suffered minor scratches, cut and bruises. Police say there was no sign of negligence. They also say the drain appears to be up to code.
