MONROE, N.C. – Officers with the Monroe Police Department have arrested a suspect wanted in connection to a shooting that occurred on July, 17, 2024.
Monroe police responded to Maurice Street around 10:50 p.m. in regards to a shooting. Officers say they discovered a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim was transported to Atrium Health in Charlotte. The victim is currently in stable condition.
On July 31st around 9:15 p.m. 37-year-old Damien Smith was arrested and charged with the following:
- Attempted murder
- Assault with a deadly weapon
- Possess of firearm by felon
He was arrested near the intersection of Rogers Road. and Wesley Chapel Road. during a traffic stop initiated by Union County Sheriff’s Office.
Smith was transported to Union County Detention Center and is currently under no bond.
