New Beach Coming To Charlotte Area

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — You may have noticed a certain post on social media saying a beach is coming to Beatty’s Ford.

Now, WCCB Charlotte’s James Scott is no stranger to the water, so naturally, he’s always prepared to catch some sand and sun. But, when James arrived at Beatties Ford road in Charlotte, all he saw was asphalt, concrete, and burnt rubber.

Turns out, he was at the wrong Beatty’s Ford.

“You’re in the wrong county, that’s it,” says John Davis, the director of Parks & Recreation with Lincoln County.

The actual beach is at Beatty’s Ford Park, spelled with a ‘Y,’ in Denver, NC.

“We’re excited for the community just because of that public access for folks that may not have access to be able to get out on the lake,” Davis adds.

Construction started a few weeks ago, and they’re off to a great start. The new beach, which will be only the fourth of its kind on Lake Norman, should be ready to go by summer 2025, thanks to a partnership with Duke Energy.

“The reason there aren’t a lot of beaches on the lake is because there’s not a lot of property left on the lake,” says Tami Styer, who works for the energy company.

“So, we’re partnering with Lincoln County to develop this beach access as a public amenity.”

Denver is a hotspot for growth around the Charlotte Metro, and this addition will help feed what’s become a voracious local economy.

“We do hope for some good impact folks coming to eat at our restaurants, shop at the stores here in the Denver area, and make the most of a trip to the beach,” Davis beams.

It’ll also come with a new fishing pier, showers, and a concession stand with ice cream, snacks, and drinks.

That’s music to James’ ears.
