One In Custody After Standoff With Burke County Deputies

VALDESE, NC — Deputies say one person was taken into custody after a nearly hour long standoff Thursday afternoon.

According to reports, deputies responded to a call on Leger Road just after 4:30pm regarding a suspect threatening to shoot a victim’s vehicle. When deputies arrived, the suspect was positioned behind a mobile home with a shotgun saying he was “going out in a blaze of glory.” Deputies say the suspect then fired multiple shots, but not at them.

After about 45 minutes deputies were able to arrest the suspect. A judge ordered him to be involuntarily committed.

Officials say the investigation is ongoing, and criminal charges are pending.
