CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A heating unit is to blame for an apartment fire that displaced 12 adults and seven children in east Charlotte. The fire caused $200,000 in damages.

The fire broke out around 5:30am at the Park Creek Apartments off Milton Road. The Red Cross is assisting the families affected by the fire.
Firefighters said heavy flames were seen shooting from the roof when they arrived on the scene. CATS brought a bus to the scene to keep residents out of the cold while firefighters fought the fire.
