CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man who was charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving, following an accident that injured five people in southeast Charlotte early Sunday morning, has died.
CMPD says at about 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning , Mario Luke Charles Fusco was driving a Hyundai Equus at a high rate of speed on Johnson Road near Ballantyne, when he rear ended a Chevrolet Trailblazer being driven by Kelly Genevieve Hildreth.
Reports indicate Hildreth’s Chevrolet ran off the road before hitting a tree and rolling over on its roof. Fusco’s Hyundai also hit a tree after spinning and exiting the road.
Medic transported Fusco to Carolinas Medical Center with critical injuries. Police say he died from his injuries Monday afternoon. Hildreth and her three passengers were transported to CMC with non-life-threatening injuries.
Mario Luke Charles Fusco was facing Driving While Impaired and Reckless Driving charges in the case.
