Welcome Drop In Humidity Ahead
We may see a few isolated storms over the next several afternoons, but most remain dry through midweek.
It’s back to business as usual across the Carolinas as Debby’s remnants fade away to our north. Highs in the mid-to-upper 80s can be expected across the Piedmont and Foothills on Sunday as mostly sunny skies maintain their strangehold on the Carolinas. A few isolated thunderstorms may pop up in the afternoon, but most communities remain dry through the weekend as a sluggish front slowly pushes eastward. The big weather story will be a noticeable drop in humidity as we head into the workweek.
A strong ridge of high pressure will build in from the north by Monday afternoon, filtering slightly cooler and drier into the Carolinas. Just like on Sunday, a few afternoon storms are possible to kick off the workweek, but most spots will enjoy a beautiful stretch of days ahead. Dew points will fall into the lower 60s across the Piedmont and Foothills – not exactly bone-dry, but certainly tolerable for this time of year. Humidity levels may rise briefly as a weak disturbance clips us from the west, but drier air builds in again by the end of the week as another powerful ridge arrives to our north. Highs will struggle to clear the mid-80s around the Metro beyond midweek, while the High Country settles into the 70s.
Debby may be gone, but the Atlantic is far from finished – nearly 85% of all hurricanes form after August. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring an area of storms roughly 750 miles east of the Caribbean, giving it an 80% chance of becoming Tropical Storm Ernesto over the next seven days. The developing system is expected to trek northwest over the next several days as it strengthens. It’s still way too early to tell where Ernesto-to-be will go beyond this week, but it’s certainly something to watch.
