BURKE COUNTY, NC — A 39-year-old Morganton woman was arrested Wednesday after deputies say she was caught stealing from mailboxes.
Deputies say Tonya Biggerstaff was walking in the area of Highway 64 near Denton’s Chapel Church Road with a back pack full of stolen mail. Witnesses had reported a suspicious person walking in the area, and deputies located Biggerstaff shortly after they arrived.
Biggerstaff was charged with felony Larceny Financial Transaction Card and misdemeanor Possession of Stolen Goods.
The Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents to the crime and encouraging them to file a report if they have any missing mail.
