Worried about rust on your car? It’s a valid concern – this nuisance problem can do damage both in terms of appearance AND performance. That’s why it’s so important to treat it in a timely manner when it appears, as well as take the time to prevent it from occurring in the first place. Our Charlotte Toyota Collision Center is here to give you all the info you need when it comes to preventing rust on your car!
Use these three tips to keep rust off your car
Tip #1: Give your car some TLC. This means washing it on a regular basis! We know it’s a pain, but dirt builds up on your vehicle and can wear away its defenses against rust if you don’t remove it. Be sure to give your car a thorough wash at least every two weeks, and don’t forget those hard to reach and forgettable spots like wheel wells and undercarriage.
Another aspect of that TLC? Waxing! Wax protects your paint from damage and fading, and your paint protects your car from getting rusty. Wax your car once every four months for an extra layer of protection and better peace of mind. (Plus, it makes your car look all shiny and new again.)
Tip #2: Don’t slack in the winter. We know it’s tempting to just avoid washing your car until the spring because of the chill in the air, but you won’t be doing it any favors. Salt from the roads can corrode away at the paint and leave your ride open to the elements – particularly, moisture. This can lead to rust formation pretty quickly. Our Charlotte body shop techs recommend rinsing your car once a week in the winter just to get the salt off!
Tip #3: Take a good, long look at your paint job. How is it holding up? If you notice that your clear coat isn’t looking so hot or that your paint itself is starting to chip or wear, then you may want to invest in a Charlotte car paint job, or at least a touch up. Our body shop can take care of it for you and it won’t break the bank. But remember, the paint protects your car from moisture, so if it’s not holding up, it can’t do its job!
