Deputies: Burke County Man Charged After Bringing Gun On Middle School Campus

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. – Burke County Sheriff’s Office deputies have arrested 30-year-old Tommy McKinney after he reportedly was in possession of a revolver while on the campus of East Burke Middle School, according to a news release.

The release states that McKinney picked up his stepson at the school on August 13 and cursed at witnesses after exiting his vehicle. After a holster on his hip with a revolver was noticed by a witness, deputies were notified and responded to the scene, but they said McKinney had already left the property.

Burke County Sheriff’s Office and Burke County Probation Officers say they went to McKinney’s residence the following day to conduct a search and found the firearm in his vehicle.

McKinney was taken into custody and charged with:

  • Felony possession of firearm by felon
  • Felony probation violation
  • Felony weapons on educational property
