Fatal Motor Crash On Statesville Road After Failure To Stop At Stop Sign

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – CMPD is investigating a fatal motor crash that took place on Old Statesville Road that resulted in the death of one person, according to a news release.

The release states that on August 18, officers responded to a vehicle crash that involved a 2016 Mercedes Benz GLE 350 and a 2017 Harley Davidson Motorcycle. The Mercedes Benz suffered heavy front-end damage, as well as the Harley Davidson suffering damage.

The operator and rider of the Harley Davidson were transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The operator, 47-year-old Dennis Koch, succumbed to his injuries.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the Mercedes Benz failed to stop at a stop sign and drove into the path of the Harley Davidson. Both the operator and rider of the Harley Davidson were ejected.

The driver of the Mercedes Benz, 44-year-old Vernetta Beatty-Cypriani, was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle.

Officers say speed and impairment were not factors in the crash.
