Police: 73-Year-Old Pedestrian Killed On East Independence Blvd

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – CMPD detectives are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a pedestrian, according to a news release.

The release states that on August 18, officers responded to a motor vehicle crash call on the 3700 block of East Independence Boulevard and found a pedestrian in the roadway with serious injuries.

Officers say a Nissan truck with front-end damage was also on the scene.

The pedestrian, 73-year-old Harry Brooks, succumbed to his injuries and died on the scene, according to MEDIC.

The preliminary investigation states that Brooks was struck by the Nissan, driven by 44-year-old Claudio Maldonado, while he was running across the street.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
