CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A three-year-old child was seriously injured in a dog attack in northeast Charlotte on Monday night.
It happened around 8:45 p.m. Monday on Cameron Commons Parkway near University City Boulevard.
Police said a group of children were playing in the front yard when three dogs, owned by the victim’s family, were let out of the garage. Two of the dogs playfully knocked down the child when the third approached and bit the victim before dragging them down the driveway.
Several adults attempted to stop the dog attack before two individuals fired gunshots near the dog, police said. The dogs then retreated into the garage.
The child was transported by Medic to Atrium Main with serious injuries.
The attacking dog was surrendered to Animal Care and Control and is being held for a 10-day rabies quarantine.
The breed of the dogs were not specified.
Police said the dog will be euthanized after the quarantine period ends.
