CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) _ Kalif Phillips ran for three touchdowns and Charlotte posted its largest margin of victory in the program’s short history, defeating Johnson C. Smith 56-0 on Saturday.

Β Β Phillips ran for two touchdowns in the first quarter when the 49ers took a 23-0 lead and cruised from there over the Division II Golden Bulls (0-1). Phillips finished with 41 yards on 10 carries and ran for multiple touchdowns for the fourth consecutive game. Maetron Thomas had 67 yards on nine carries including a 60-yard touchdown run.

Β Β Matt Johnson completed 13 of 18 passes for 285 yards, including a 24-yard touchdown toss to T.L. Ford. The 49ers added another score on Prince Mayela’s 48-yard interception return and had five field goals.
