Sheriff Garry McFadden Addresses Law Enforcement Priorities at 2024 Democratic National Convention

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Sheriff Garry McFadden has returned after attending the 2024 Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago on behalf of the National Sheriff’s Association (NSA) where he serves on the executive board. Sheriff McFadden’s participation at the convention was marked by his dedication to advancing the priorities of law enforcement agencies nationwide.

During his time at the DNC, Sheriff McFadden actively advocated for enhanced backing and funding to improve operations within correctional facilities. He engaged in discussions with a diverse array of news media representatives and past and present White House staff, laying out the NSA’s key priorities for 2025. These priorities include bolstering border security, addressing immigration challenges, reducing youth crime and gun violence, enhancing mental health support for staff and residents, and ensuring competitive bonuses and hiring incentives for law enforcement personnel.

Sheriff McFadden emphasized the need to establish a committee to clarify how North Carolina manages immigration and the specific requirements for sheriffs and law enforcement agencies. He also called on representatives, senators, congressmen, and future presidential candidates to engage directly with local sheriff’s offices, extending an open invitation for them to visit his facility and gain firsthand insight into the challenges faced by law enforcement.

The sheriff commended the Chicago Police Department, Cooke County Sheriff’s Office, and the Secret Service for their exemplary professionalism throughout the event. He expressed his enthusiasm for the experience, which he says was well-organized and  invigorating. Sheriff McFadden looks forward to future conventions and continued opportunities to advocate for the critical needs of law enforcement agencies.
