CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A man is facing charges after allegedly running a red light and fatally striking a motorcyclist in east Charlotte on Wednesday night, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
It happened around 8:15 p.m. on North Sharon Amity Road near Shamrock Road.
When police arrived at the scene, they located a severely injured victim in the roadway. The victim, 55-year-old Christine Miller, was transported to the hospital and was later pronounced dead.
The initial investigation found that a Honda Pilot, driven by 29-year-old Jairo Garcia, failed to stop at a red light while making a left turn from North Sharon Amity Road onto Shamrock Drive, police said. In doing so, the right front-end of the vehicle hit the front of a Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by Miller.
Garcia was also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Medic.
Although the incident is still under an active investigation, police have charged Garcia with misdemeanor death by vehicle, no operator’s license and a red-light violation.
Anyone with information on this crash is asked to contact Detective Pressley at 704-432-2169 Extension 2.
