Driver, Not Wearing Seatbelt, Killed In Rollover Crash

WARRENSVILLE, N.C. – A driver, who was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Friday afternoon, was not wearing his seatbelt, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Around 3 p.m. Friday, the highway patrol responded to a fatal crash on Clint Gilley Road and Heavenly Mountain View in Ashe County. They say a 1965 Chevy truck drove off the right side of the road, went down an embankment, and overturned before coming to a halt on its roof.

The driver, John Shoemake, died at the scene. The patrol said he was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

An investigation found that neither speed nor impairment were contributing factors in the crash.
