YORK COUNTY – Officials are investigating following the death of a 22-year-old inmate at the York County Detention Center.
On Thursday, September 5th at approximately 5 p.m. officers discovered the inmate unresponsive in a cell. Officers say they immediately rendered medical aid and performed CPR until additional emergency medical services arrived. The inmate was pronounced the inmate dead shortly after.
A preliminary investigation indicates the inmate died by suicide. He has been at the YCDC since August 27, 2024, for the charges of malicious injury to property, communicating obscene messages to another person, domestic violence first degree, domestic violence second degree, and burglary first degree.
Details, including the identity of the inmate, are not available until the investigation is complete. This is the second in-custody death at the YCDC in 2024.
