CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Wednesday marked the 23rd remembrance of September 11th, a day Americans came together – bonded by sadness and patriotism – following the 9/11 terrorist attacks that happened in 2001.
A blanket of flags is on display at Romare Bearden Park to honor those who died during the terrorists attack on the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers.
For 19 years volunteers with the F.F. Steven Coakley Foundation have honored those victims by displaying American flags along with the name and a picture of each life that was taken.
Nearly 3,000 flags have been placed on the park grounds in the shape of the twin towers.
