York Family Donates Car To Help Single Mother In Need
YORK COUNTY, S.C. — A York family made a big donation to Tender Hearts Ministries that has given a single mother a new sense of faith. Krystle Harrel said she called the non-profit with an offer to donate the car her husband drove before he bought a new ride.
“It was his daily driver that we didn’t really need anymore,” Harrel said. “We wanted it to go to somebody that could use it”
The Harrel family has lived in York for 10 years and regularly donates items to Tender Hearts. However, this is the first time Harrel has offered a car to the non-profit. The family was set on giving away their 2013 Honda CRV.
Harrel was not sure if the organization would take the car. Luckily the same day Harrel called, so did a single mother in need of a ride.
“She called the same day that we called,” Harrel said. “Her car had broke and she needed a car. So it was just fate.”
Tender Hearts President, Ainslee Moss, said that single mother is a participant in the non-profit’s back to work program. The program consists of two years of assisting participants in getting their lives back on track through finding work, education, housing, and more life changing resources. Moss said a car is one of the most important needs for participants in the program.
“A single mom in our program who has a small child, and she was starting back to college. Working full time,” Moss said while describing the program participant who received the car from the Harrel family.
Harrel said this is the second car her family has donated and it won’t be the last. The Harrel family of four dropped off the car together, but they did not get to meet the mother who received it.
WCCB did get a statement from the single mom. In her message she said the car helped restore her faith.
It’s rare but Tender Hearts said this isn’t the first car to be donated, and hopefully it wont be the last. The non-profit is always accepting donations and says everything helps even if it’s not as big as a car.
